IPU CET
GURU GOBIND SINGH INDRAPRASTHA UNIVERSITY COMMON ENTRANCE TEST
The IPU CET or the Indraprastha University Common Entrance Test is an exam conducted by the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University for short-listing candidates for admission to its UG & PG programs in Engineering, Medical, Dental, Law & Management disciplines.
The basic eligibility criteria for appearing in the IPU CET are as follows:
- The candidate should be an Indian citizen.
- The minimum qualification for the UG course is 10 + 2 or its equivalent.
- The minimum qualification for the PG course is Graduation.
- For the UG course the candidate should not be greater than 21 years.
Reservation is provided as follow:
- Reservation is provided for candidates belonging to Delhi and some reservation is also provided for candidates living outside Delhi.
- The percentage of reservation varies based on the following:
i. It varies based on the reserved category a candidate belongs to viz SC/ST/OBC/DEF/PWD.
ii. Based on whether the college in which admission is sought is self-financing and is located inside/outside NCT of Delhi.
iii. University schools and government schools inside/outside NCR of Delhi.
iv. Institutions located inside/outside Delhi
The exam syllabus and pattern varies as per the course for which admission is sought. Here is a list:
- For the BBA course questions are asked from English, General Awareness, Logical Reasoning and Management Aptitude. There are 150 objective type questions in all to be answered in 150 minutes.
- For the B.Tech course questions are asked from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. There are 150 objective type questions overall.
- For B.Com (Hons) there are 35 questions from Logical Reasoning, 40 questions from Logical Comprehension, 25 questions from General Awareness and 50 questions from Data Interpretation.
- For B.Tech (Diploma) there are 4 sections including Applied Mechanics, Applied Mathematics, Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering & Electronics and Computer Awareness.
- For the Lateral Entry B.Tech course there are 4 sections including B.Sc level Mathematics, English (10 + 2) Level, Analytical & Logical Reasoning and Scientific Aptitude.
- For the B.Tech BT course the questions are from Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-Technology. The Biology/Bio-Technology section is given the maximum weightage of 50% while the other two sections are given a weightage of 25% each.
The cut-off mark for the IPU CET is determined based on the number of candidates and the number of seats available. To get admission in the desired college and the desired course a candidate must have a scored marks equal to or greater than the cut-off. For the undergraduate programs it is necessary to be thorough with the 10+2 level knowledge of the subjects. For the PG programs it is important to cover the degree level subjects thoroughly. Working with previous years’ papers would be helpful. There are also a large number of books available that would come in handy for preparation.
