 UTTAR PRADESH STATE ENTRANCE EXAM

The UPSEE or the Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Exam is an examination conducted by the DR.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Uttar Pradesh for selecting candidates to be admitted to the undergraduate and post graduate courses offered by the university and affiliated colleges. The courses offered are B.Tech in Engineering and Agriculture, B.Arch, B.Pharm, Fashion and Apparel Design, Hotel Management, MCA and MBA and MAM.

The eligibility criteria for appearing in the UPSEE are:

  • The candidate should have secured a minimum of 45% in the 12th board in all the papers.
  • For B.Tech/B.Pharm/B.Arch/BHMCT/BFAD/BFA the candidate should have passed Intermediate or equivalent.
  • For B.Tech (Lateral Entry) the candidate must be a B.Sc degree or Diploma Holder.
  • For B.Pharmacy (Lateral Entry) the candidate must be a Diploma Holder in Pharmacy.
  • For MCA (Lateral Entry) the candidate must be a BCA/B.Sc., (IT/Computer Science) degree holder.
  • For MCA/MBA the candidate must be B.Sc degree holder or equivalent.
  • For MAM the candidate must be an Intermediate passed

The subject combination required in the qualifying examination for the various courses are as follows:

  • For B.Tech/B.Des/M.Sc. (Integrated) the compulsory subjects are Physics and Mathematics. In addition the candidate must have passed any one of Chemistry/Bio-Technology/Biology/Technical Vocational Subject.
  • For B.Tech (Bio-Technology) the compulsory subjects are Physics and, Mathematics or Biology. In addition the candidate should have passed any one of  Chemistry/Bio-Technology/Technical Vocational Subject.
  • For B.Arch the compulsory subjects are Physics and Mathematics. In addition the candidate should have passed any one of Chemistry/Computer Science/Biology/Engineering Drawing/Technical Vocational Subject.
  • For B.Pharm the compulsory subjects are Physics and Chemistry. In addition the candidates must have passed one of Mathematics/Bio-Technology/Biology/Technical Vocational Subject.
  • For B.Tech (Agriculture) the compulsory subject is agriculture in any discipline.
  • For BHMCT/BFAD/BFA/MBA (Integrated) the compulsory subject is in any discipline.

The mode of the exam is online or offline depending on the paper. There is no negative marking. The total number of marks is 600. The duration of the exam is 3 hours and the exam type is objective. The important topics in Mathematics include Algebra, Dynamics and Vectors. The Physics paper covers Heat and Thermodynamics, Work, Power & Energy and Mechanics of Solids and Fluids. The Chemistry papers include major topics like General Organic Chemistry, IUPAC Nomenclature, Atomic Structure and several others.

Biology comprises of topics from both Zoology and Botany. Zoology includes topics like Origin of Life, Human Genetics and so on. Botany includes topics like cell differentiation, Algae, Bacteria, Fungi, and Genetics and several others. The paper on Agriculture covers topics like Agricultural Physics, Agronomy and Agricultural Engineering.

To test a candidate’s aptitude for architecture topics included are Mathematics, Aesthetic Sensitivity and Drawing Aptitude. The UPSEE is an extremely coveted exam as it opens up a large number of opportunities for talented students. The best way to prepare for the exam is to be thorough with the 10+2 level in all the subjects. There are a number of books available for preparation. There are coaching institutions available. Thorough and early preparation is a must.
