SHRESHTA Scheme Paves Way for SC Students' Bright Future!

SHRESHTA Scheme Paves Way for SC Students' Bright Future!

In a transformative move by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MoSJE), Government of India, the Scheme for Residential Education for SC Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas (SHRESHTA) for the academic year 2023-24 has been rolled out. This groundbreaking initiative is aimed at providing meritorious Scheduled Caste (SC) students, both boys and girls, with exceptional residential educational opportunities.

The SHRESHTA scheme is a beacon of hope for SC students, offering them the chance to excel in their academic pursuits. The scheme is meticulously designed for private residential schools affiliated with the CBSE up to Class 12. To be eligible, these schools must have a proven track record, with at least a 75% pass percentage in Classes 10 and 12 over the last three years. Additionally, the schools must have been operational for a minimum of five years, possess the requisite infrastructure to accommodate at least 10 additional SC students in Classes 9 and 11, and be classified as residential as per OASIS data.

This scheme is unique in its approach to student entry, allowing enrolment in Classes 9 and 11 until the completion of education up to Class 12. Each year, 3000 fresh students are selected through the National Entrance Test for SHRESHTA (NETS), conducted by the National Testing Agency. The allocation of schools to these bright young minds is determined via a web counselling process, based on merit and the students’ preferences.

Schools interested in associating with the SHRESHTA scheme must meticulously review the scheme document available on the MoSJE website. This is crucial to understand the specifics of the scheme, including the maximum admissible scholarship, number of seats, and the obligations of the selected schools.

The scheme mandates that selected schools update their websites with year-wise, grade-wise numbers of students admitted under SHRESHTA. It’s important to note that the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment (DoSJE) is responsible for the selection of schools, in consultation with the CBSE based on the OASIS data.

Schools must thoroughly ensure their eligibility and readiness to meet the scheme’s criteria before expressing their consent to the DoSJE. Upon selection, schools are obligated to adhere to the scheme guidelines strictly and ensure that they do not refuse the allotted students.

This initiative is a significant step towards bridging the educational gap and creating a more inclusive and equitable society. Schools that meet the criteria and are eager to make a difference are encouraged to participate actively in this noble endeavor.
